It’s not an entirely new idea as we have been hearing for some time now that a Hasbro shared cinematic universe is coming but recently it seems to have died down somewhat.
Until now.
Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins star Henry Golding has confirmed that the movie is, as we all thought anyway, a reboot of the GI Joe franchise: “They’ve recreated GI Joe into something very cool and a far throw from what we’ve seen thus far on the big screen,” he said.
“I think there’s room for many spin-offs, to be honest. This, I think, will be the launch of a brand-new franchise.”
Now a new rumour says that the M.A.S.K (Mobile Armoured Strike Kommand) universe may be introduced in the movie.
M.A.S.K. is being discussed to make their live-action debut in the movie already with Fast and Furious director F Gary Gray helming from a script by Bad Boys For Life’s Chis Bremner writing, so the idea of them being introduced in some capacity in Snake Eyes is not that shocking.
Fans will of course know that M.A.S.K is basically a cross between GI Joe and Transformers with seemingly mundane vehicles being able to transform into attack vehicles at the first sign of trouble.
And, speaking of Transformers, it seems that the Robots in Disguise may also be set to crossover with GI Joe and M.A.S.K too and, again, may see them introduced in Snake Eyes too. And, on top of that, a Power Rangers/Transformers crossover is also being developed as the Power Rangers are now owned by Hasbro too.
If they are smart, they will use the Bumblebee movie as the beginning of this new shared-universe as it already stepped away from the Micheal Bay universe and went back to the franchise’s much-loved origins meaning that they have already set up the clean slate for all these awesome worlds to come together.
In my mind, GI Joe and Cobra will use the Transformers technology to develop the M.A.S.K vehicles, so, to me, the three franchises are organically linked. And, let’s be honest, once you have giant alien robots, ideas like Power Rangers (or ROM or Mocronauts who were also originally teased as being part of the shared universe) aren’t that difficult to bring in.
M.A.S.K, Transformers and GI Joe (or Action Force as it was called over here) formed almost as large a part of my childhood as Ghostbusters or Star Wars, so having them all smashed together in one big world works for me just as excitingly as the MCU or DCEU.
But hey, that’s just me.
What say you all? Let me know your thoughts, guys.
