Well, we’ve had Han Solo, Indiana Jones, John McClean (planned), The Terminator and The Predator return, so why not have Riggs and Murtaugh?
Yes, it looks like the Lethal Weapon movies may have another bullet in the chamber after all these years proving the duo aren’t too old for this s@#t after all.
Stars Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, along with director Richard Donner are all looking to bring the buddy cop series back for (at least) one more movie.
According to the new report: Donner would direct and Channing Gibson (Lethal Weapon 4) would script. There are many moving parts, but we’ve heard that all are on board and exploring another film. It would move forward, of course, at Warner Bros, the studio that has brought audiences four in the franchise. The buddy action comedy was a major hit for the studio under the Bob Daly, Terry Semel regime when it first launched in 1987 and together the four have pulled in $955.2M worldwide. The last one was released in 1998.
We had assumed the movie series was dead after the birth of the TV Show last year, but it seems that you just can’t keep a good thing down with reports as recent as last August that a fifth movie might happen (here).
The running joke was always that the cops were ‘too old for this s@#t,’ so why not do an entry where they actually are.
And let’s hope Rene Russo, Joe Pesci and Chris Rock are all free too.
What say you all? One more ride for Riggs and Murtaugh? Let us know…
