FTN favourite Guillermo Del Toro has revealed why Pacific Rim 2 may mean another outing for Hellboy and saw the end of his Justice League Dark Project…
When we found out that Del Toro had to leave his long-gestating Justice League Dark project at Warners (here) we were less than happy.
However, the visionary director has revealed why he left and the legacy the one of his other passions, Pacific Rim 2, has left on his workload: “Warners liked the script, they were very enthusiastic and wanted to green-light it but they wanted it to coincide with the shoot of ‘Pacific Rim 2. I was put in a very difficult place facing a difficult choice, and I chose to do ‘Pacific Rim 2.’”
The director goes on to say that, despite his departure, there’s still a good chance that the movie will be made… just not with him.
While speaking about superheroes or, more specifically, anti-heroes, Del Toro spoke about the long-rumoured, fan-demanded Hellboy III: “The hard fact is that the movie’s going to need about $120 million and there’s nobody knocking down our doors to give it to us.”
He went on to say that Legendary Pictures have indicated to him that, should the upcoming Pacific Rim 2 be a success, Hellboy would be a more likely prospect: “Ron [Perlman] is no spring chicken, so we’d better get to it before Hellboy has to do everything from a Barcalounger… I would watch that.”
