Guy Ritchie out of directing Sherlock Holmes as Dexter Fletcher steps in

Well, it looks like with Robert Downey Jr no longer playing Iron Man he’s in need of something to do, so why not go back to and play the man with the plan, Mr Sherlock Holmes?

Dexter Fletcher, director of Elton John’s “Rocketman” along with playing Nathan Young’s father in the hit show Misfits, is all set to direct Sherlock Holmes 3 and he sure has some big shoes to fill with the first two of Guy Ritche’s movies in the franchise both grossing over $500 million worldwide. That being said, they were done while Downey Jr was Iron Man so there is every chance that they only got the ratings because of that.

Warner Brothers, who handled the first two Holmes movies, have said a third was always on the books but with the MCU taking up all of Downey Jr’s time it wasn’t viable for him to put on the deer stalker and return as Sherlock until his time in the MCU was done.

With Jude Law also set to make his return as Professor Watson, the film was originally meant to be coming out late next year but has since been changed to a December 2021 release.

With the last two things Fletcher has done being Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody, I’m actually struggling to see if he’s gonna be a good fit for Sherlock 3, but in saying that, it’s hard to go wrong with Robert Downey Jr, so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
