We reported a few days ago that Sony were set to make their standalone Venom movie an R-Rated horror outing (here).
Now it seems we might have a contender for directing that movie… Dredd producer Adi Shankar.
Well, Shankar has made a name for himself by producing a lot of short movies that, while based in certain universes, are not in any way related or official. He’s perhaps best known for The Punisher short Dirty Laundry (here – If you’ve never watched it, do so now. But be warned, it’s very NSFW).
However, he also made a Venom short too. Or, more specifically, an Eddie Brock (the man behind the Venom skin) short called Truth in Journalism (reported here) starring True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten.
Now it looks like Shankar may be going bigger and kicking off Sony’s new Marvel universe (next up is a Silver Sable and Black Cat) with Venom.
In the theatrical release arena he has produced Lone Survivor, The Voices and The Grey, however, he has never directed anything himself.
Whatever happens, Sony’s Spider-man universe includes Spider-Man (in the MCU), the villains (see above) and the upcoming Miles Morales animated movie.
So nothing confusing there, then.
Whatever happens, Venom is set for release on October 5th, 2018.
