It’s finally official, Hocus Pocus 3 is in development, and the Sanderson sisters, played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, are all dusting off their brooms for their big return.
The movie will be the second sequel to the 1993 movie about three Salem witches who found themselves resurrected in the modern day, following 2022’s surprisingly not terrible Hocus Pocus 2, however, this time the new movie can correct a big mistake the second movie made.
Hocus Pocus 2 was a Disney+ exclusive, meaning it never hit cinemas and it never had a physical release, however this third outing is reportedly being developed for a big screen release.
Which is wonderful news.
“Hocus Pocus 3 script is done,” says Midler, more original cast returning?
You see, for some reason, back in 1993, Hocus Pocus, a movie aimed at a family audience about three witches, which took place during Halloween and is a great horror gateway movie, was released in the middle of July, and, not surprisingly, it flopped. However, over the years, it became an essential Halloween watch in homes all over the Western world and even found itself getting seasonal releases on the big screen. I know that when my kids were young, we watched this movie at home, in cinemas, and at least once in a drive-thru many times over the years.
So, as time went by, the original eventually became a big hit, and when the sequel was released in 2022, it was reportedly a very big hit for Disney+, so it’s no wonder this one might be being eyed for a big release.
We waited a long time for a Hocus Pocus sequel and when it came, it was just in time, hitting screens just before my kids stopped trick or treating and dressing up for Halloween fun, and it was enjoyed in our house, although, as of writing this, it’s been watched only once, while the original, well, you know.
That said, no matter how old my kids are, I like to think that Hocus Pocus 3 will see us all heading to the cinema over the Halloween season to see what the Sanderson sisters are planning next.
I’m already looking forward to it.
Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all!
