Is ALF set to appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3?!

May 8th, 2022 by Marc Comments

A funny thing has been happening on Twitter between Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 writer/director James Gunn and, em, ALF.

ALF, for all you non-80s TV fans, was an alien – A.L.F stood for Alien.Life.Form – who was stranded on earth and was funny, sarcastic, cool with a penchant for eating cats and being hairy (I still have a massive cuddly ALF in my attic somewhere, I’m sure of it) and while he was a big TV character, he also had a surprisingly long life in comics too.

Oh, and his real name was Gordon Shumway and he hailed from the planet Melmac before living on earth with a family here on earth.

But now Gunn has been interacting with ALF’s official Twitter page and has us wondering… are we getting an ALF cameo in Guardians Vol 3? I mean, we got Howard the Duck in Vol 2, so nothing is impossible.

When one fan put it to Gunn and ALF that a crossover could be coming, ALF responded “can’t two celebrities be best friends without it being a promotion?” before tagging several news outlets.

Now, we ordinarily would just laugh this off, but ALF’s comic series was published by Marvel, below, and he even was part of the Marvel crossover event Evolutionary War, with the villainous High Revolutionary, who wanted to destroy the human race by forcing them to evolve, even appeared in the ALF comic, left, and you can read all about that here.

On top of this, Gunn famously brought Howard the Duck into the MCU in his second Guardians movie and he’s just as silly a character as ALF, so we’re certainly not ruling out his appearance in the third movie.

Totally coincidentally, I have started watching Mr Robot recently and ALF actually appears in a second season episode when Rami Malek’s character, Elliott, is in a coma and dreams of ALF, so he’s still in the public eye.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is due on May 5th, 2023, and will star Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldaña as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as Groot, and Bradley Cooper as Rocket Racoon along with new cast member Will Poulter as Adam Warlock.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
