It looks like Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead franchise is dead at Netflix

September 7th, 2024 by Marc Comments

It’s looking like bad news for fans of Zack Snyder’s Netflix zombie franchise, Army of the Dead.

Kicking off in 2021, Army of the Dead was Snyder’s first big project for Netflix, with prequel movie Army of Thieves coming out that same year and things were looking good for the franchise with a sequel in development as well as an animated series well under way with Snyder confirming last year that all the voice work was done and the series was still moving ahead.

However, now, it seems that the animated series is dead and the sequel presumably is too.

As per The Wrap: Army of the Dead, a movie the Snyders made for Netflix before Rebel Moon, had a similarly ambitious plan, with several sequels and spin-offs in the works (one, the prequel Army of Thieves, was actually released), along with an animated series.

The animated series was quietly canceled, along with plans for subsequent films. Zack said: “We are very ambitious with everything.”

Snyder’s recent outings for Netflix, the Rebel Moon and Rebel Moon director’s cuts, were, well, pretty terrible and sadly, audiences and critics all received it with the same lackluster greeting. It’s not known if this has any bearing on the cancellation of the Army of the Dead stuff – which actually did have good viewing figures even if the critics didn’t care much for it either – but whatever it come down to, it’s safe to say that, like it’s namesake, the franchise is indeed, dead.

Thoughts?

Meanwhile, check out the latest trailer for Snyder’s Twilight of the Gods series:
