Jai Courtney talks Suicide Squad

October 21st, 2020 by Marc Comments

With the news that Jared Leto is back as Joker earlier tonight (here), his Suicide Squad co-star, Jai Courtney has been talking about the upcoming The Suicide Squad and how it relates to the first movie.

The new movie, following up from Suicide Squad (yup, they added the ‘The’), will see some of the original cast returning but will also see many new members signing on to Task Force X and, yes, a few will not be back (Will Smith’s Deadshot for example). On top of that, this new movie has been penned and directed by Guardians of the Galaxy’s James Gunn who took over from David Ayer in the original.

“It’s not necessarily even a strict sequel, is the truth. It’s different, man, but people are gonna have a ball with it. I hope it’s massively successful,” Courtney said.

On the new cast, the star said it was a blessing and a curse: “It’s sad to see some of my castmates not involved, but I’m so thrilled to welcome a whole bunch more in. And I think it frees up the direction in which this franchise can take. It cracked things open in a way that we now won’t know what to expect from the next time.”

On the movie itself, he explains the tone of what’s to come which, under the direction of Gunn, isn’t surprising at all: “It’s very funny.

“It’s what you’ve come to expect from this kind of film. People are going to have a great time with it.”

With it looking likely that Ayer will get his vision for the original movie realised on HBO Max at this stage, there should be a lot of excitement for Gunn’s followup movie.

Are you excited for it? I want to hear your thoughts, gang…
