You might remember a few days ago we reported that Deadpool director Tim Miller had been confirmed as director of the new Terminator movie (here) thanks to the announcement of a talk with creator James Cameron. Well, the event has happened and there was another BIG announcement for the franchise….
Linda Hamilton is returning as Sarah Connor!
Fans of the series will recall that, while the first two movies revolved around Connor, the third one had her die offscreen. The character was of course played in The Sarah Connor Chronicles by Game of Thrones’ star Lena Headley and then in Terminator: Genisys by another GoT star, Emilia Clarke.
But now we’re get the original and, yes, the best back again.
Speaking at the event, Cameron said: “As meaningful as she was to gender and action stars everywhere back then, it’s going to make a huge statement to have that seasoned warrior that she’s become return.
“There are 50-year-old, 60-year-old guys out there killing bad guys, but there isn’t an example of that for women.”
It will be awesome to see Hamilton back but we’re wondering, will this mean some – if not all – of the new movie, which aims to be a trilogy, will take place in the future war?
We do know that the movie will be overseen by Cameron with David Goyer and Josh Friedman heading a writer’s room that will handle the franchise moving forward. We also know that it will be a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and will most likely ignore Terminator 3, Terminator: Salvation and Terminator: Genisys. Which is probably no bad thing.
For the new movie, Cameron added: “We’re starting a search for an 18-something woman to be the new centerpiece of the new story. We still fold time. We will have characters from the future and the present. There will be mostly new characters but we’ll have Arnold and Linda’s characters to anchor it.”
Despite our doubts, it really looks like this is going to happen… and that’s pretty damn cool by us.
The future isn’t set…
