Well, it looks like the MCU has a very special Christmas present planned for next year.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vols 1 and 2 writer/director James Gunn just teased the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on social media.
The what now? Well, from Gunn’s comments to fans under the tweet we learned a few things about the show.
It’s Television Special – Gunn Loves the Star Wars Holiday Special – not a movie.
It’s set for Christmas 2022 – presumably on Disney+.
Gunn wrote the treatment years ago but has just finished the script.
While he didn’t answer one fan who asked if it was Marvel canon, he did confirm it will be set after Thor: Love and Thunder but before Guardians of the Galaxy III; so, I’m guessing it’s canon.
We’ve known this was happening since late last year when it was announced at D23 but now we have a timeline for it.
Interestingly, we had previously reported (here) that Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill might be involved in Guardians Vol 3 and the actor tweeted about the Holiday Special “I have a bad feeling about this” (here)… could he be involved in this? Or is it just because of the Star Wars homage? I’m sure we’ll know more soon enough.
So there we have it, the MCU is giving us an homage to Star Wars’ weirdest moment and it feels only right that it be this bunch of losers.
So, what say you all? Are you excited? Let me know your thoughts, all.
This is the wrapping. The present is inside. #GotGHS 🎅🏽🚀💜 pic.twitter.com/NqDw5s6ed8
