We know that James Gunn got his Superman: Legacy script handed in before the ongoing writers’ strike hit but we’re now learning that it will set-up another part of his new DCU live-action plan (along with Peter Safran).
It seems that while they’re currently screen testing for Superman and Lois Lane, Gunn and Safran are also seeking actors to embody The Authority.
“James Gunn is chugging along with Superman: Legacy, with the screen tests for Clark Kent and Lois Lane to happen over Father’s Day weekend. (Roles such as Lex Luthor and members of supergroup The Authority, which are to be introduced in the movie, will be cast after.”

Yes, it seems that, while we knew the Superman movie would land in an already established universe, it will include the Wildstorm Comics heroes too.
While we don’t know exactly which members of the team will be appearing in the movie, it’s a good call that characters such as Jenny Sparks, Apollo, Midnighter, The Doctor, The Shaman and/or Angela Spica will be set to make their big screen debut.
We didn’t see this coming, that’s for sure, The Authority was created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch and when Gunn announced their standalone movie – which Superman: Legacy will now set up, it seems, he said: “One of the things with the DCU is it isn’t just a story of heroes and villains and not every movie and TV show is going to be about good guy versus bad guy, giant thing from the sky comes and good guy wins.
“There are black hats, white hats and gray hats. There are people that are anti-heroes, and there are people that are very questionable, like The Authority, who basically believe that you can’t fix the world in an easy manner, and they sort of take things into their own hands.”
It’s a bold move to start a new cinematic universe in a world already populated with characters and it reminds me of the aggressive view many took on Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice when they believed it introduced too much too soon, without earning the characters presences – nonsense of course – something Gunn doesn’t seem too concerned about; it’s a bold strategy and I really hope it works out.
Thoughts? I know you have them! Voice-off in the usual ways on FTN’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
