James Mangold confirms he’s set to write the DCU’s Swamp Thing movie

A while back there was word that Logan and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’s James Mangold was writing and directing a Swamp Thing movie based on the DC antihero and there was some excitement about the whole thing.

However, yesterday at Star Wars Celebration it was revealed that Mangold was writing and directing a new Star Wars movie based in the Old Republic era and featuring the first-ever Jedi and it seemed that this was the death toll for his Swamp Thing project but it seems that, no, Mangold is focused on Star Wars and DC.

“The truth is, I’m writing both right now, and who knows what’s going to happen and what’s gonna blossom first or second?” Mangold said.

“So there’s your thing, I’m doing Swamp Thing, there’s your scoop. It’s not a rumour, it’s happening.”

This was announced by DC during the week when it was on the official slate of movies and shows for phase one of the new DCU:

The first five movies include:

  • Superman: Legacy – July 11, 2025
  • The Authority
  • The Brave and the Bold
  • Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
  • Swamp Thing

The Television projects are:

  • Creature Commandos
  • Waller
  • Lanterns
  • Paradise Lost
  • Booster Gold

Mangold’s involvement was confirmed by James Gunn who is co-head of DC’s future with Peter Safran, saying: “When we started charting the course for the DCU one of the first people I talked to was the super talented [James Mangold] about writing and directing his passion project Swamp Thing.”

So there you have it, Mangold is bringing us the beginning of the Jedi and the beginning of Swamp Thing in the new DCU. Fair play…

Thoughts?
