James McAvoy talks about potentially playing Professor X again and if he’d want to

September 26th, 2021 by Marc Comments

Just as the fandom is getting excited over supposedly leaked pre-visual images that reveal Professor X may be set for Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, star James McAvoy, who appeared as the character in five movies (yes, we count Deadpool 2), has spoken out about potentially returning to the role.

Now, even if the leaked images are real, we don’t know if Marvel/Disney intends on having McAvoy back, will get Patrick Stewart back for the role (Stewart has been approached about a potential return but says he refused as he felt the character got a suitable sending off in Logan (here)) or if they’ll bring in a whole new actor, so we’re not saying any of this turns out to be true.

But, what is true, is that the actor has talked about revisiting the character and if it will happen.

“I feel like, yeah. I feel like I got to explore, not everything I wanted to explore, because there’s always more, surely, but I got to explore a ton of Professor X, and I feel quite satisfied with what I got out of him as a performer. It’s not to say that you don’t ever want to, you never want to come back, and you never want to do it again, and all that kind of stuff,” McAvoy says.

“You never say never, as I believe James Bond once said. But I’m not chomping at the bit. I’m not going to be gutted and desperately sad if it never happens again.”

Personally, I hope the MCU does bring back the current X-Men cast, including McAvoy, as, while not at the Fox X-Men movies were winners, I felt the cast were on the money and, with Ryan Reynolds set to appear as Deadpool (here) and rumour being Marvel want Josh Brolin back as Cable (here), then I’m sure we can work the others in too.

But hey, what do we know here at FTN? We just like to talk about stuff we love.

What do you all think? Would you like to see McAvoy back as Professor X in the MCU? Let me know your thoughts, gang.
