In an era of returning franchises, IPs and characters, it looks like the slashers may have the biggest body count.

Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt has finally signed on to return as Julie James, the lead in 1997 slasher I know What You Did Last Summer and its sequel I still Know What You Did Last Summer.

Jennifer Love Hewitt talks returning to I Know What You Did Last Summer series

The star’s return was in some doubt as returning co-star Freddie Prinze Jnr was filming a few weeks ago but it seems that finally, she’s back for a third tussle with the hook-handed slasher.

A few days ago, while speaking of her return, she said: “I am possibly preparing for that. I am so close to being able to say something that’s exciting. It has only been scheduling and me trying to make sure that if I go back to the franchise, I just don’t want to be the ghost of ’90s past.

“I really want to do something, and I want to be there for Julie James fans. I just want it to feel like, you know, if she comes back then it means something.”

Taking to social media to confirm her return, the star wrote: “It’s never too late to go back. Julie James is returning. I know what you will be doing next summer!”

I Know What You Did Last Summer will now star Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr along with Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Madelyn Cline, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Austin Nichols, Gabbriette, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Lola Tung and Billy Campbell.
