Jon Hamm is interested in playing Batman… and is this the planned Supergirl movie plot?

September 16th, 2018 by Marc Comments

You may recall the whole to-do earlier this week about the possibility of Henry Cavill stepping out of the blue and red suit.

Now, while we’re relatively confident that this isn’t happening – or as confident as we can be without being in Warner Bros – two things have come to light as a result of it.

Ready?

Ok, firstly, with Cavill’s rumoured departure the whole thing about the ongoing Ben Affleck shennanigans  – is he in or out?! –  came up and with that, pne of our favourites to don the cape and cowl came out of the shadows to say that IF it happened he’d be interested in the role.

Who?

Why none other than Jon hamm who has declared his comic book geekiness and his openness to playing a hero:  “It depends on the script, what the story is,” says Hamm.

“I am a huge comic book fan, always have been. I’ve read comic books since I was 9 or younger. And I’m pretty knowledgeable about a lot of them. And I like the genre, and I like when they’re done well.”

It seems that he’s aware of his name being attached to to the role for several years now: “I have had rumors about that since probably season one of Mad Men,” he said.

“I have never had a conversation with anybody about it, literally. And I’ve sat in the room with all these guys. I have never been offered anything. I think the internet wants what it wants. But, I mean, a lot of people have to sign off on that, obviously not just the internet.”

Now. let us stress that we are still firmly in the Affleck camp and hope it stays for as long as he wants, but IF he were to leave, we honestly think Hamm – one year older than Affleck – would be an awesome Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Now, the other thing that came out of it all was the rumour that the reason Cavill’s not happy with how he’s being treated is because he’s being offered small roles in numerous movies rather than a big movie of his own – this is a rumour we’ve heard and reported on before, that Superman, before getting Man of Steel 2, would be an anchor for the other members of the Justice League to bring them in… we know he was meant to appear in Shazam! but due to scheduling wasn’t able to.

However, reportedly something else that irked him was that Warners, rather than doing MoS 2, was pushing ahead with a Supergirl movie.

The rumour is that the Supergirl movie script by Oren Uziel as conceived right now would leave no room for Superman:

Supergirl is being conceived as a period piece with a likely 1970s setting. This would be an origin story for a teen Kara, but also make it impossible for Superman to appear. In the traditional comic book stories, both Kara and Kal-El left Krypton at the same time, but Kara didn’t arrive on Earth for a few decades more. When she did, her baby cousin was all grown up and the superhero known as Superman, but that would all change with this approach. These are however early and unconfirmed reports on the story, and could change as the script is developed.

We’re also hearing that Brianiac, who has often been rumoured as the villain as and when MoS 2 arrives, will be the big bad in the Supergirl movie.

If all this is true, we can’t blame Cavill for wanting out… just give the guy what he – and the fans! – want: a new Superman movie.

It’s not that difficult, guys…
