Time for a DC round-up!
Obviously this week’s big news was the confirmation of Matt Reeves as the director of The Batman and also the Nightwing movie development, but that doesn’t mean there’s not much more going on… so here we go.
First up, director Zack Snyder shared this awesome image from Justice League of Batman kicking the heck out of a load of enemies… parademons? Training robots? Something else? Who knows, but it’s pretty great looking nonetheless.

In related Justice League news, Laurence Fishburne has confirmed that, although he was asked to appear briefly in the movie he wasn’t able to: “They asked me to come for a day, but I couldn’t work it out, schedule-wise. And really, what do you need the newspaperman in Justice League for? You want to see the Flash. You want to see Aquaman. You want to see Wonder Woman. You want to see the Lantern.
“You want to see Aquaman, you want to see Wonder Woman. You want to see the Lantern. We’ve been waiting 35 years for these [characters] to show up on the screen. What were they doing over there? Marvel has been kicking their ass. This is the comic-book geek in me, who has a collection of comic books. I’ve been waiting to see these people on-screen forever.”
While we loved his turn as Perry White in Batman V Superman, we can see his point and we also can’t see him having an integral role if he was only filming for one day… we’ll just have to wait to see more of him in future DC and Superman movies.
Next up, there’s a fair bit of Wonder Woman news too.
The movie had very hush hush test screenings last week and the word was apparently very positive overall.
It also looks like we’ve learned new details from these screenings too.
The big news is that David Thewlis looks likely to be playing Ares in the movie – Ares has long been the rumoured villain in the movie with actor Danny Huston rumoured to be playing him (it looks like Huston is a Nazi general in the movie but NOT the big villain). Thewlis is probably best known as professor Lupin in the Harry Potter movies.
And we have a good idea of what Ares will look like in the movie thanks to the new action figures revealed at New York Toy Fair:

Here’s who Huston will play… a real world character: Imperial German Army general Erich Ludendorff.
Danny Huston’s role in #WonderWoman has officially been disclosed.

We’ve also heard that the plot has been revealed and described as follows:
The movie will have a framing device of Wonder Woman in Paris emailing Bruce Wayne, who is asking her to join the Justice League. In this email exchange, Diana recounts her past and meeting her first love, Steve Trevor, and how she ended up fighting in World War I, a war that was caused by Ares. This is how he will serve as the film’s main antagonist (as revealed over the weekend). By the end of the movie, she tells Bruce that she has re-found her faith in humanity after losing Trevor and fighting in the war, and that she is willing to join him in the Justice League and help find other Meta Humans. There was no word on whether Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne appears in the movie, or whether he is just in email form.
We’re also hearing that the movie is actually pretty dark, despite the criticisms aimed at Batman V Superman…
And finally, we have a little bit more info on Aquaman in the form of a short synopsis of the movie:
Aquaman will center on Aquaman as a reluctant ruler of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis who is caught between land dwellers that are always polluting the globe and his own people who are ready to invade the surface.
Aquaman is being directed by James Wan (Fast & Furious 6, The Conjuring) and stars Jason Momoa as the titular hero, reprising his role from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, along with Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Dr. Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna and Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry
