You may recall a couple of months ago that there was a bit of a kerfuffle over the name of Boba Fett’s spaceship in the Star Wars franchise.
No, you didn’t dream that.
So, the controversy started when a representative of LEGO mentioned (here) that Disney no longer wants the ship to be referred to as the Slave 1 – as it has been for forty years – due to the negative connotations of the word slave.
However, anyone who believes the name of Fett’s ship – which, in-universe was called this as his father, Jango Fett, owner of the ship before him, as enslaved when he was young and he stole the ship from his captors and named it as a reminder of his time in captivity – has anything to do with the horrible history of slavery in our own world is, well, very wrong.
However.
We hoped that this whole thing was a misunderstanding or, as we heard too, that Fett, having turned over a new leaf in The Mandalorian, decided to rename his ship to signify his new life… this makes sense and we hope that, if this does happen, it will be explained in the upcoming The Book of Boba Fett series.
However, it seems that Youtuber Thor Skywalker (below) has stumbled upon the new – well, old, actually, name of the ship.
As he explains in the video below, in a new press release for the War of the Bounty Hunters comic series, Disney quietly slipped in the new official name of Fett’s ship: Firespray.
And yes, we know that the ship, in lore, is a Firespray-31-class attack and patrol craft but the renaming of it seems to imply that, moving forward, it is no longer to be called Slave 1.
Here’s the Press Release:

The action-packed crossover is currently unfolding across all of Marvel’s ongoing Star Wars titles as well as a main WAR OF THE BOUNTY HUNTERS limited series and character-focused one-shots. I want to hear all your thoughts, gang.
