Ok, bit of a confusing one, here.
So, you may recall a few weeks back we reported that Doctor Who and Jumanji star Karen Gillan was set to lead a Pirates of the Caribbean reboot (likely) without Johnny Depp (here) by original Pirates writer Ted Elliott and Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin.
Well, it seems that, yes, that is the plan, but a second reboot project is also now in the works too.
Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson is reteaming with Harley Quinn actress Margot Robbie for a new female-led Pirates adventure at Disney.
“The project, in early development, is not intended to be a spin-off of the long-running franchise that had pirate Jack Sparrow at its centre, but rather a wholly original story with new characters under the Pirates moniker, itself inspired by the long-running attraction at Disneyland.”
Longtime Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer is to bring both movies to the big screen.
We all know the star power of the always great Robbie and Hodson has also penned Transformers spin-off Bumblebee and is working on The Flash which has Michael Keaton set to return as Batman, so the talent all round is solid for sure.
We’ll keep you posted as and when we get more details, folks.
