Well, we were pretty sure of this before, but Michael Bay has confirmed our (fears?) suspicions…
Yes, the director of the last four Transformers movies… IS coming back for the next one.
We reported a while back that the Transformers movies would open up to new cinematic universe including MASK, GI Joe and others (here) and we suspected all along that Bay would be back (here), so despite the new writing team including Iron Man writers Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Black Hawk Down’s Ken Nolan (here), Mark Wahlberg is back again and now so is Bay. The more things change, huh?
Talking to Rolling Stone Bay confirmed he’s back for the movie, set for Summer 2017: “I’m doing Transformers … 5, is it? J.J. [Abrams] told me, ‘You’re the only guy that could do this.’ But it’s time to move on. One more.”
He also leaked a few minor details about the movie: “Rolling Stone was also present in Bay’s Santa Monica office when he took a video call with visual effects supervisors at ILM, who showed him “an underwater rendering of a crash-landed alien spaceship, then a new dump-truck Transformer with a cloak” for the new film, which Bay apparently was dissatisfied with in their current form.”
In related news, the magazine also can confirm that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows will feature the Krang and Bay shares a little information about the alien: “He could have some tentacles. I just don’t want them coming out of the side. He looks like a stupid octopus.”
Em, he’s sort of meant to look like a stupid octopus, isn’t he? Or is that just us?
