More animated Star Wars movies on the way?

May 6th, 2021 by Marc Comments

If, like me, you enjoyed The Bad Batch this week and especially it’s long running-time and, before that, enjoyed The Clone Wars animated show, then there’s some exciting news potentially on the horizon.

In a recent thread about The Bad Batch’s longer run-time Cinelinx Editor-in-chief Jordan Maison said that “As far as I know, they ARE doing more and actively working on a couple animated “films””.

Now, clearly, this isn’t confirmation, but the idea of animated Star Wars movies seems like a no brainer, really, especially with Disney+ siting waiting to deliver more Star Wars goodness.

If you look at how cinematic Clone Wars, Rebels and now The Bad Batch were, it seems like animated adventures in between the bit live-action releases is something fans would eat up and not only that, it would allow more risky stories, eras to be explored that otherwise may not be… just imagine an old republic movie, a rule of two movie or a new can version of The Thrawn trilogy. It’s all there for the taking.

It’s interesting though to point out, for the sake of clarity, that Maison may have been talking more specifically about extended episodes of animated shows, like the first episode of The Bad Batch, but let’s not forget that The Clone Wars movie was technically four episodes strung together too.

Could this tie into Anakin Skywalker’s voice actor Matt Lanter who recently (here) said there is more Star Wars animation in development and that we will see Anakin again? Well, it’s hard to think it doesn’t, isn’t it?

Anyways, would you like to see more Star Wars animated movies in the future? Let me know your thoughts in all the usual ways, gang.

Meanwhile, enjoy this new Bad Batch featurette.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
