Exciting news for fans of Mortal Kombat which hits HBO Max and cinemas tomorrow as it seems the plan is for several more movies.

Four more, in fact.

The Raid and Fast & Furious star Joe Taslim (39) plays the villainous Bi-Han/Sub-Zero in the actioner has revealed that the plan was to go well beyond the story of this movie.

The star, in a new interview, confirmed he has signed on for four new movies, saying: “If this one’s successful, maybe we do more.”

So it’s definitely being considered, while not greenlit yet, as a franchise and, given early reviews and fans’ anticipation, it’s a safe bet there’s going to be more movies in the future.

The star also reflected on growing up poor in Sumatra but discovering the joys of the MK games: “I was born in South Sumatra. We were poor so I didn’t have the console because it’s expensive.

“I went to my friend’s house every day to play the game. But you get there and there are like ten kids lining up. Who wins keeps playing…so it takes me to get to my part like 40 minutes.”

I’m looking forward to the movie – even though I really don’t like gory movies – so I’m not against a video game franchise finally stepping up and delivering.

Thoughts?

The Mortal Kombat movie stars Lewis Tan (“Deadpool 2,” Netflix’s “Wu Assassins”) as Cole Young; Jessica McNamee (“The Meg”) as Sonya Blade; Josh Lawson (“Bombshell”) as Kano; Tadanobu Asano (“Midway”) as Lord Raiden; Mehcad Brooks (TV’s “Supergirl”) as Jackson “Jax” Bridges; Ludi Lin (“Aquaman”) as Liu Kang; with Chin Han (“Skyscraper”) as Shang Tsung; Joe Taslim (“Star Trek Beyond”) as Bi-Han and Sub-Zero; and Hiroyuki Sanada (“Skyscraper”) as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion. Also featured are Max Huang as Kung Lao; Sisi Stringer as Mileena; Matilda Kimber as Emily Young; and Laura Brent as Allison Young. Directed by Simon McQuoid.
