Valerian

Luc Besson’s latest project seems like it could be great.

Valerian, despite sharing its name with a wild herb, is a time-hopping adventure that follows two young time agents from the 28th Century as they try and keep humanity’s future safe. The film stars Dane DeHaan as the titular Valérian and Cara Delevingne as Laureline.

And the director last week decided to slot this picture onto his Twitter account in a blaze of no publicity:

(for the uninitiated, that’s Besson himself in the back, trying to pull an Alfred Hitchcock)

Okay, it’s only based on one picture so far, but come on: it just looks awesome! Like the design aesthetic of every old pulp matinee has been updated for the 21st Century! The body armour is just great. Not so sure about Besson’s jacket though…

Valerian is set for release on 21 July 2017.

The death ray is currently in the works and one day you shall all bow to him, his giant space station and fleet of funky orange space shuttles...
