Neve Campbell back for Scream 5?

May 12th, 2020 by Marc Comments

Some good news for fans of the Scream franchise tonight as it looks like star of the first four movies, Neve Campbell, is set for her return for the fifth movie.

The franchise (so far) revolved around Campbell’s Sidney Prescott, whose mother’s murder leads to a series of increasingly bizarre murders and sequels, and honestly, aside from the third movies, it’s been a very enjoyable series.

And the fifth one has the promise to be every bit as good as its predecessors.

Ready or Not directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillertt are on board for this outing and, if you’ve seen the utterly superb Ready or Not, you’ll know what sort of fun this could be.

“Well, I’m not a hundred percent on it, but to be honest, the two directors have made some great work. I’ve watched their films, and they’re really talented,” says Campbell.

“They wrote a letter to me, expressing what great fans of Wes’ work they are, and how honored they are that they’re getting the chance to make Scream 5 because the Scream franchise is the reason that they’re directors now. So, that was really sweet. They really wanna honor Wes’ style of work and honor the movies.

“That was a lovely thing to hear. So, we’ll see. Hopefully, we can all see eye to eye on everything and make something great, but it’s a process.”

Honestly, the very concept of a Scream movie without Sidney Prescott at the core of it, just doesn’t seem right. And the other good news? Campbell reckons this is a sequel and not, thankfully, a reboot.

“I think you can always tell them more with these stories, and they’re such fun films. There’s obviously a huge audience for them, and the audiences wants to see more of them. You can always go further with the journey. Certainly, with Sidney, she comes to some new shift in her life, at the time, and I don’t know. We’ll see.”

Wes Craven’s 1996 Scream was a real game changer for the horror genre and it was mimicked to the point where the idea was done to death, but with a talent like the Ready Or Not team behind it – seriously, if you’ve not seen Ready or Not, you need to – this could be a fresh take on a franchise that was already a gamechanger.

There’s no word on when we can expect to see Scream 5, but restassured, we’ll be pacing the floors until it arrives.
