Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and Kevin Williamson return for Scream VII

April 2nd, 2024 by Marc Comments

Well, it looks like Scream VII, after a very bumpy start, is back on track and is getting the band back together, so to speak.

Courteney Cox has signed on for her seventh tussle with Ghostface, joining original Scream End Girl Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott and now directing the movie will be writer of the first three movies, Kevin Williamson.

The movie hit a rough period a number of weeks back after new face of the franchise Melissa Barrera was let go after comments online (Sigh) and then her costars joined her in solidarity and original directors Radio Silence left being replaced by Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon who was then also released, leaving Williamson to step up and take the reigns on a franchise he and director Wes Craven kicked off all those years ago.

Does new merchandise confirm Scream VII still set for next year?

“It’s been nearly 30 years since my very first script, ‘Scream,’ was directed by the legendary Wes Craven. I never would have predicted what it would become,” Williamson said of coming onboard to direct, “Or that I would be directing the seventh installment of the franchise. I am overcome with gratitude and excitement, and I can’t wait to take this journey with Neve and the entire ‘Scream’ family as we bring back Sidney Prescott in the next chapter of the ‘Scream’ franchise. Thank you to all the ‘Scream’ fans. You are the gift that keeps giving.”

Taking to social media, Campbell spoke about her return to the role that made her an icon: “Sidney Prescott is coming back!!!!

“It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the ‘Scream’ movies. My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me, has never waned. I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled.”

While we know very little else about the movie at this stage, we are hearing that there will also be a younger (mid-20s) cast joining the movie too, likely in the main roles and that Williamson may be looking to return the story to his ‘cult of Ghostface’ idea that was scrapped early in production of Scream 3 and would see many Ghostface killers being controlled by one master… and originally it was Stu Macher, the killer from the first movie played by Matthew Lillard.

Not saying that’s going to happen but we’re still hoping that Stu is coming back.
