New Line moves forward on Mortal Kombat sequel

January 28th, 2022 by Marc Comments

Last April we learned that the fun but dumb Mortal Kombat movie that come out last year was the start of a planned trilogy (here) but we’ve hear little since then.

Until now.

It seems that New Line is moving forward with Mortal Kombat 2 with Moon Knight writer Jeremy Slater penning.

The first movie hit HBO Max and cinemas on the same day due to that damned virus, but we’d imagine that the sequel will – thankfully – be a big screen only event.

It hit the number one spot in the box office and HBO Max, so it’s no surprise that we’re going to be getting more of the same.

Although, we hope it’s not strictly more of the same as the first movie, while fun – and even featuring a couple of those fan-favourite gory deaths – was very light on plot and character and, while it’s ‘only a video game adaptation’, we’d like to see a deeper second entry… with the fun and gore, obviously.

The first movie starred Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Joe Taslim, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin, Tadanobu Asano and Chin Han but so far there’s no word on casting for the sequel… though we’d be surprised if a couple of those faces didn’t return and maybe not stay on their skulls the whole way through the movie.

Are you excited for more Mortal Kombat? If so… get over here!
