Last month, we reported that two new Pirates of the Caribbean movies are at various stages of production, neither of which features Johnny Depp, but that might still change.
After the whole Depp/Amber Heard debacle, Depp was dropped from his big franchises Pirates and the Fantastic Beasts movies over at Warners but it seems that, while the two new Pirates movies will feature female leads with Margot Robbie and Karen Gillen, there’s still some desire to bring Captain Jack back to the franchise.
That only makes sense.
It seems that Disney’s David Greenbaum is looking to bring back some of their most successful franchises with a bang, including Pirates.
“The studio has not engaged with Johnny Depp, the franchise’s biggest draw,” says the new report before revealing that Pirates producer is working on a new movie with ‘two versions of the script on parallel tracks, one that could bring Depp back into the fold if the actor and Disney can reconcile’.
“Nothing has been ruled out,” says a source…
Look, I love Gillen and Robbie and both have more than their fair share of kick-ass roles under their belts but, there’s no point in trying to be tactful here, if a Pirates of the Caribbean movie doesn’t have Depp involved, it’s not going to deliver. That’s not to say that Depp couldn’t share the screen with either or both actresses, after all, Captain Jack works best as a supporting character.
Thoughts? Let me hear them…
