Ok, so two things have become abundantly clear in recent weeks.
Firstly, DC/Warner Bros do not need to stick to the whole ‘copy and paste/shared universe’ thing to make great movies and, some may even argue, they’re better doing their own thing – just look at Joker.
Secondly, with the news last week that a newspaper was spotted on set for Michael Keaton’s kind-of return as Bruce Wayne in The CW’s Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover the fandom went into meltdown at the mere hint that Keaton may be back as Batman (he’s not), so he’s still a much-loved version of the character.
And, something established long ago, Batman Beyond is a major part of the DC universe and the fans would love to see it return.
So, with all these things now established, you would have to assume that Warner Brothers are aware of this and therefore there might just be some truth to this next rumour.
Yes, there’s rumblings that Warners want Michael Keaton to return as Bruce Wayne/Batman for a live-action Batman Beyond movie.
Now, personally, I would love to see this. Keaton is still the damned legend that he was 30 years ago (just look at Spider-man Far From Home) and another piece of the story added to his legacy – indeed, an ending – would be welcomed with wide-open arms by fans and, I think, the general public.
The addition of Terry McGinnis to the live-action Batman lore would be perfect and, if the live-action movies ever delved into the Multiverse there’s no reason we couldn’t see him crossover into the main DCEU at some stage ala Spider-Man Into The Spider-verse.
As of now, this is all mere rumour and speculation but if Warners ARE considering it, then just do it, guys… you – and we – will not be sorry.
Would you like to see Keaton back as a retired Batman bringing a new hero into the fold? Given the Crisis on Infinite Earths newspaper revelation (here), would you like to see Michelle Pfeiffer back too?
I want to hear it all, guys… let me know your thoughts
