We are in interesting times indeed, if a filmmaker who is as secretive as J.J. Abrams keeps releasing trailers and footage. The latest trailer and poster for Star Trek focuses on our mysterious villain, John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch). Previous looks attempted to keep his motivations a secret, this one lets it known that he committed some sort of terrorist attack. The many innocents that die as a result force the Kirk and crew to hunt him down, as he continues to commit these atrocious acts. It’s really hard not to compare this movie to Empire Strikes Back, it just has that feel.
What really impressed me in this new international trailer is the sense of massive scale and the location work. While these have always been one of J.J.’s strengths, he is really stepping it up a notch. One can only imagine what he can do with Star Wars: Episode VII.
