There were many things to love about Guardians of the Galaxy, from the rocking soundtrack to the leading man charisma of Chris Pratt. One of the standout moments however, came courtesy of Oscar-winner Benicio del toro, who briefly stole the show with his flamboyant interpretation of The Collector.

Since then, fans have wondered if the character would be seen at all in the sequel, set for release in 2017. However, it looks as though it’s bad news for fans as del Toro revealed he hasn’t been approached yet about making an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, although he does retain some hope that he’ll reprise the role at some point in the future.

When questioned for an update on potentially returning, the actor told ComingSoon.net: “I don’t think so, they would have told me, I hope… I do hope to play that character again at some point.”

Don’t be too disheartened though, as the Sicario star has another epic sci-fi film on the horizon in the shape of Star Wars: Episode VIII. Del Toro is signed on for a secretive villain role and fans are excited to see who he will play.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled for release on April 28th 2017 in the UK and on May 5th in the States, with director James Gunn reuniting with returning cast members Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebulda).
