Not one but two Predator movies coming next year!

Any Predator fans in house? Of course there is… and we have a big bit of news for you all.

It seems that in 2025, we’re getting not just one Predator movie, but two! In a new interview,  20th Century Studios Boss Steve Asbell has revealed that after he success of Prey – it’s great, check it out! – they were keen for writer/director Dan Trachtenberg to do a sequel, this time for cinema rather than streaming, and he was very accommodating… sort of.

“After Prey became a success, Dan came back and said he didn’t want to do Prey 2,” Asbell says, “and we’re like, ‘What do you want to do?’ And he rattled off a bunch of ideas that were really crazy but really cool. We’ve actually done two of them. Two are coming out next year.”

Wait, two Predator movies next year?! “One I can’t talk about yet, but the other one is the live-action Predator film with Elle Fanning that just wrapped in New Zealand. That’ll be out theatrically sometime next year.”

Ok, so what’s the details on these movies? Well, the theatrical release is called Badlands and “it is an absolutely bonkers idea. It is a sci-fi thing, but it’s not what everybody thinks it is. And I mean, it’s awesome. It is so nuts. But in Dan, we trust,” says Absell.

Ok, and the other movie? “There’s a second Predator movie that we have different plans for. Dan has actually directed both… [the second, secret one] will come out before the theatrical one that I can’t say anything about yet.”

Ok, so I’m hearing rumours that the secret movie is an anthology movie, “an animated feature, as many speculated. The twist though is it’s almost an anthology, telling three separate stories of Predators fighting warriors in multiple eras. One is potentially pirates, one is potentially samurai, and there’s a third one too”. This would make sense as Absell refers to the theatrical release as the ‘live-action’ one, meaning the other might not be.

I loved Prey and having Trachtenberg overseeing the franchise right now makes me excited, it also really gets my blood pumping to think of Predators all over our timeline tackling our greatest warriors – I always wanted to see a Terminator movie where a T-800 was sent back too far and fought gunslingers or knights – and it really shows that Predator is one of a handful of franchises that can be almost anything, heck, it could fight a bunch of homeless kids in New York or tackle Batman in Gotham and it’s all perfectly valid.

However… will we ever see another Alien Vs Predator movie, only, you know, a good one? “Probably,” says Asbell.

He goes on: “It wouldn’t be in the way you think. That’s the thing. Not in the way that it will just be called Alien vs. Predator or anything like the original movies. If we do this, they’ll be organically created out of these two franchises that we’ve continued with characters that we fall in love with and those characters will combine…perhaps. But we haven’t gotten to that point. And we’re not just going to bang it out.”

With the news that Alien: Romulus is getting a sequel with Fede Alvarez back directing and Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth series coming next year, it’s cool to think it might be leading to something organic… as long as it’s done well, we’re all here for it.

Thoughts? Let me hear them…
