Patty Jenkins wanted Ben Affleck’s Batman in now Cancelled Wonder Woman 3?

September 28th, 2023 by Marc Comments

We all know by now that a third Wonder Woman movie starring Gal Gadot and directed by Patty Jenkins, who directed the first two, was canceled recently, as the DCEU goes into a reboot under James Gunn and Peter Safran, but now there might be some details revealed.

When we first met Wonder Woman in the DCEU, she was in the modern day, fighting alongside Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman against Doomsday but once she got her own movies, she went further back in her own timeline, in the first movie she found herself in the first World War and in the second movie, she fast-forwarded into the 1980s – 1984 to be precise – and it seems that another time jump was to take place in the third movie.

Word is Gal Gadot will be returning as Wonder Woman in Gunn and Safran’s DCU

According to Scooper Can We Get SomeToast (below): Patty Jenkins’ take for her canceled #WonderWoman3 with Gal Gadot was set in the present day of the DCEU, after Justice League and her cameo in #TheFlash.

While this is just a rumour, it makes sense given that we know the movies like to jump forward and the DCEU loved a good cameo in it’s later years, with Gadot herself recently appearing in the Shazam sequel and The Flash, so it certainly gels with expectations.

However, once Gunn and Safran took over, it seemed that Jenkins’ vision for Wonder Woman just didn’t fit any longer and, while rumours persist that Gadot is staying for more movies, Jenkins was let go.

Look, I liked the first Wonder Woman movie but Wonder Woman 1984 was, well, it was pretty dire, so I’m not shocked that Jenkins’ vision for the character was put under the microscope; that said, I would have loved to see Wonder Woman meet Batman again ont he big screen.

Perhaps we’ll get that again in the new DCU… though just who will be playing the heroes, that’s anyone’s guess.

Thoughts? I know you have them! Voice-off in the usual ways on FTN’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
