According to Variety Paul Rudd is Ant-Man!
They go on to say that the actor has begun negotiations for the role of Hank Pym that he’s been linked to since October.
It was Variety that first reported that Rudd and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were the frontrunners for the role. I think the choice is a great one, Hank Pym is not a typical superhero. Rudd has been waiting for a breakout title role and I think Edgar Wright is the one to get it out of him.
Although there’s no assurance yet that it remains the case, Wright’s original plans for the film involved both Hank Pym and the later Ant-Man of the comics, Scott Lang to appear in the film. So there’s still a chance Joseph Gordon-Levitt could be playing Lang, but probably not likely considering his possible involvement in Warner Bros.’ Sandman.
It was also rumored that Rudd’s I Love You, Man co-star Rashida Jones was up for the role of Janet Van Dyne aka The Wasp.
Edgar Wright is directing from a script that he has co-written with Joe Cornish (Attack the Block). The film, which will launch Marvel’s Phase Three, will hit theaters on July 31st, 2015.
