Ok gang, take this will a MAJOR handful of salt but Matt Smith’s role in Star Wars Episode IX may be a big one.
On the latest Weekly Planet podcast (below) the guy say that they have heard from a source close to the movie that Smith may be playing…. Emperor Palpatine as a young man.
Wut?!
Well, we did say to treat this as unlikely.
So how could this happen? Well, a most likely way would be to have a flashback scene focusing on a young Palpatine. However, we have also heard that Hayden Christensen may also be back as Vader/Anakin so perhaps we’ll see them together? As Sith ghosts or maybe in another way?
The guys speculate in the podcast that one way might be that Rebels introduced the concept of time travel in the Star Wars universe in the final season, and it actually featured Palaptine, so perhaps he’s a presence in the future timeline?
Honestly, we have out doubts, but remember too that in the original EU canon, Palpatine has clones of himself… could Abrams’ rumoured ‘course correction’ for the franchise see it going down this road?
Who knows – for the record, we’d see Smith as a young Snoke. But, hey, that ay be just us.
What do you all think?
