Robert Rodriquez hopeful about a Alita: Battle Angel sequel on Disney+

December 27th, 2020 by Marc Comments

Many of you will know that James Cameron and Robert Rodriquez’s Alita: Battle Angel has built up a very dedicated and insistent fan base since it came out early last year.

But when Fox – who released it originally – was bought over by Disney, many saw it as the death knell for our heroine.

But it seems that Rodriquez, who directed the movie, seems to think there is hope for the story to be continued.

“Anything is possible,” Rodriguez told Forbes.

“Disney bought Fox, and they have Disney+, so that is worth the conversation. I know other people would love to see another, and I would love to do another one. As far where it would go or how it would be made, I think streaming has opened up many opportunities such as sequels. It’s already a pre-sold concept, it’s already got a built-in audience that wants to see it and then it’s delivered to them in a way that’s the easiest for them to consume. So, it’s not a bad idea.”

Given that Rodriquez has been directing on The Mandalorian, it’s not impossible that he has got his foot in the door at Disney+… whether or not this has any impact on efforts to bring Alita back is, however, anyone’s guess.

As a big fan of Alita: Battle Angel, I would be very happy to see her return on the big screen or on Disney+.

What say you all?

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
