Rogue One mini news round-up: Rogue One toys: the animated show! A new evil R2! And no Emperor this time out…

Lucasfilm and Disney are a sneaky bunch…

Just in case you weren’t aware of how badly you need the figures and merchandise from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, we have a new animated series which has just kicked off (episode one is below) that features a new Star Wars adventure and stars… the toys.

And yes, now we want them even more.

In related news, it looks like there’s a new R2 in the Star Wars universe. Well, sort of…

Meet C2-B5, an Imperial Astromech droid revealed not he latest episode of The Star Wars Show (watch it here). He is clearly a droid similar to R2-D2 but with a flat black finish that is, firstly, awesome and, secondly, clearly signifying he’s a bad guy.

We like him very much. Do you?

And in more related news, the Emperor himself, Ian McDiarmid has confirmed at Amsterdam Comic Con that he will not be appearing in Rogue One: “And of course Rogue One is on its way, when I was in charge of things. I mean the Emperor, not me. I don’t feature in that myself, but I understand Darth Vader may be making an appearance.”

To be fair, we didn’t expect to see him in it as at that stage he’s too busy destroying planets and being supremely evil… but at least we’ll not be expecting to see him now.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
