RUMOR: Ewan McGregor to appear in Star Wars: Episode VII

August 16th, 2013 by Marc 1 Comment

The other day our man Ed filled our readers in on the rumor circulating about a Force Ghost appearance in Episode VII for Darth Sidious, but it seems the fun may not be ending there.

According to Kellvin Chavez from Latino-Review Ewan Mcgregor will be back to play Obi-Wan Kenobi’s spectral form in Episode VII. Kellvin does go on to say that he has confirmed this with three different sources close to the project, but with the way news on slowly leaks, or rather doesn’t, on Episode VII, I’m going to file this under “very likely” until McGregor comes out himself and confirms it.

We know that once Kenobi bit the bullet in A New Hope and become one with the Force he popped up routinely in Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, but that was Alec Guinness. I think it would be rather strange to have to explain how Kenobi’s Force Ghost de-aged into Ewan McGregor, but if anyone could figure out a way to work around that it’s J.J. “alternate timeline” Abrams.

So what do you guys think? Is a Force Ghost Obi-Wan Kenobi something you’d want to see in Episode VII?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
