Rumour Control: Characters cut from Justice League, Joker script nearly done and more DC Cinematic news!

September 24th, 2017 by Marc Comments

As we get closer to November, we’re getting more and more details – and rumours – around the release of the Justice League movie and beyond.

And it’s a mixed bag.

Firstly, it seems that Zack Snyder, director of Man of Steel, Batman V Superman and Justice League until he had to step down, giving the reigns to Joss Whedon, will not be returning to Justice League: “I’m at a place where I feel excited about it and I’m happy for my guys and I love these people that are working on it, and they’re my family and I think they’re doing an amazing job.”

On top of that, with Batman Day being yesterday, Snyder took to Vero (below) to reveal that he believes Ben Affleck is the best Batman… do you agree?

(Continues after pic)

Next up, it seems that the script for director Todd Phillips and producer Martin Scorsese’s Joker standalone movie is set to be handed in next week…

Phillips is co-writing with 8 Mile‘s Scott Silver and will co-produce with Scorsese in a movie that is rumoured to star Leonardo DiCaprio (here) and be set in the 1980s (here). The movie is still rumoured to be unconnected to the main DC Cinematic Universe.

Next up, with Joss Whedon currently filming new and additional scenes for Justice League it seems that three major characters’  roles have been left on the cutting room floor.

Firstly, Darkseid was supposedly set to appear at the end of the movie, setting up Justice League 2 (similar to Thanos at the end of Avengers). However it seems that movie will not set up a sequel and will have it’s own complete ending. This does not mean there won’t be a Justice League sequel, but just that it will give them time to concentrate on the other planned movies first.

Next up, it seems that Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor will not appear either, despite in Batman V Superman being the one who alerted Justice League villain Steppenwolf of earth’s presence and possession of the Motherboxes.

In addition to this, it seems that Kiersey Clemons’ Iris West has been cut from the movie too. Clemons has appeared in the SDCC trailer for the movie:

So Darkseid, Iris West and Lex Luthor cut? Can we expect another Ultimate Edition down the line?

And last but not least, we reported a while ago, it seems that Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman will indeed appear in the Flash’s movie, Flashpoint.

While not much else is known, given the enormity of the Flashpoint story, we’d imagine we’ll see a lot of DC characters appearing… it’s cool that Gadot is set to be a cornerstone of the universe though.

Word is Back To The Future’s Robert Zemeckis and LEGO Movie’s Phil Lord & Chris Miller are still top choices to direct the movie.

So there you have it… big changes in the DC Cinematic landscape.

Let us know what you all think.

Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Billy Crudup as Henry Allen, Amber Heard as Mera, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, with J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, and Amy Adams as Lois Lane.

Fueled by the hero’s restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Justice League sees Bruce Wayne enlist the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Directed by Zack Snyder (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Man of Steel), the screenplay is by Chris Terrio from a story by Snyder and Terrio. Filmmaker Joss Whedon, who is also attached to a Batgirl film for the DCEU, is directing the additional photography for the sequel and is overseeing the completion of its post production following Snyder’s family tragedy. Justice League is produced by Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Jon Berg and Geoff Johns. The executive producers are Jim Rowe, Wesley Coller, Curt Kanemoto, Chris Terrio and Ben Affleck.

Justice League hits cinemas on November 17th.
