Do we have details on the new Joker movie that everyone seems so obsessed with?
Last week it was announced that Warners/DC may be putting out a new banner of movies that will allow them to explore different versions and stories of their characters that the ones we’ll meet in the main Cinematic Universe; something similar to the Elseworlds comics from the 1990s which saw characters placed in different times and genres and it will all begin with the Clown Prince of Crime himself, The Joker (here).
Now, we don’t think that’s exactly what’s happening here… we actually think that this could mean we’ll see the Flashpoint movie which was officially announced at SDCC having a ripple effect on the DC universe, much like in the comics, which will change some characters’ history and personalities.
As for Joker, well, here’s the thing, any fans of the Batman comics or Joker himself will know that the character’s history is pretty much unknown. Sure, we have The Killing Joke which is sort of the main origin of the character and was the basis for much of his origins in the 1989 Tim Burton Batman movie, but as Heath Ledger’s take on the character liked to remind us with multiple origins in The Dark Knight, no-one really knows where the Joker came from.
And we think this may be why the new movie with director Todd Phillips and producer Martin Scorsese attached is touted as being the first movie outside the main canon because the story they tell may not necessarily be the TRUE story of the character.
And, with that in mind, Brendan Schaub, a former MMA fighter who is now a player in Hollywood, appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience and they got talking about the aforementioned Tim Burton Batman movie which then led to talk of Joker, which then led to Schaub dropping a bit of an interesting exclusive on the show about the new Joker movie.
Schaub got talking about Todd Feldman, Todd Phillips’ agent, and it seems he knows some of the details of The Joker movie: “My boy Todd Feldman put this together with Todd Phillips,” Schaub said.
“It’s dark. It’s like a dark Joker. As a kid, he had a permanent smile and everyone made fun of him. It’s like on the streets of Brooklyn. It’s super dark and real.”
This definitely could be the same movie we’re hearing about and it definitely ties into all that we’re hearing, especially Feldman’s involvement.
But would you like to see a movie with a young Joker and how he becomes comics’ most iconic villain? The Brooklyn element also ties in to Scorsese’s involvement.
Let us know what you all think below…
The video below will start at the 1:03:00 mark, just as they start talking about Joker…
