Scarlett Johansson hints at Black Widow standalone franchise

November 8th, 2019 by Geralt of Australia Comments

Now as we all know there’s the Black Widow standalone movie happening it looks like it may not be the only one…

Scarlett Johansson, taking the stage at Women in Hollywood, let slip that it may indeed just be the start of a standalone franchise:

As we already know the film will be set between the events of Civil War and Infinity War, so one of the questions I have is who else will we see?

It shouldn’t be too far of a stretch to think that Hawkeye could have some part in it, especially if they delve into her past and we get to see what actually happened in Budapest. But what about Black Panter?

In Civil War there’s a deleted scene where we see Widow and Panther having a friendly little chat just before Bucky breaks out, now this was originally cut to speed up to the fight scene but I think it shows something a little deeper: Widow was the only one who acknowledged T’Chaka’s death and at a time when T’Challa has no-one there that has to mean something to him… and if I was the Panther I’d want to know how her “Widow Bite”  managed to get through his suit.

Another option could be that we move on to the next Black Widow.

Actress Florence Pugh (who was utterly superb in Midsummer) has been linked to the Black Widow movie and a lot of fingers are pointing at her being Yelena Belova, aka Black Widow 2.

If you were lucky enough to be at the last Comic-con then you would have been treated to a special clip that features ScarJo and Pugh going toe-to-toe against each other – unfortunately this clip still isn’t available online but soon as it is you know we’ll have it – but why were they fighting? could this have been someone that she just came across in her job, or could this be another person who was raised with her? there’s still so many questions that need answering.

Whether we get an old Widow or a new one I’m rather looking forward to seeing what happens, until more news pops up, it looks like we’ll just have to wait for the Avenger to assemble, stay nerdy folks.
