Scream VII nabs Happy Death Day and Freaky director as Radio Silence step down

August 20th, 2023 by Marc Comments

Scream has had a triumphant – and long overdue – in the last few years, thanks in no small part to the direction ofMatt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, collectively known as Radio Silence but sadly for the next, seventh movie, it seems that duo is stepping back and handing the reigns over to another.

Yes, it seems that Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon is stepping up to the director’s chair.

Landon is a fun and exciting choice for the franchise but, honestly, I have loved the last two movies and think that Radio Silence made the franchise into something exciting and new and would love to have seen them finish their trilogy but it seems it’s not to be.

However, the duo will stay on as executive producers on the movie and, although it’s not yet confirmed, it seems likely that Scream V and VI writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick will stay on, meaning that hopefully, the story they have been developing over the previous two movies will play out as originally planned.

I’ve hearing that Jenna Ortega, that star of V and VI along with Melissa Barrera, is finding scheduling an issue for the next movie – she is, after all, a big star now – and this is why Radio Silence had to stop down as the studio is pushing to get the movie into production as soon as possible, however, the lastest I’m hearing is that she will appear in the movie after all… leading some to wonder if this will be her last Scream and she might even be the big murder scene at the beginning as has become customary in the series.

So, there you have it; big changes for the Scream series but hopefully good changes.

Thoughts? I know you have them! Voice-off in the usual ways on FTN’s FacebookTwitter and Instagram
