July 26th, 2026 by Marc Comments

Well, we’ve suspected this was coming for quite some time now, but it’s confirmed that one of FTN’s favourite stars is set for a BIG role in the MCU.

Yes, Ryan Gosling IS Ghost Rider and he’ll be coming to the big screen soon, directed by Deadpool & Wolverine’s Shawn Levy. The duo has just finished filming Star Wars: Starfighter together.

During Marvel Studios’ blockbuster Hall H panel at SDCC, Marvel President Kevin Feige announced the new Ghost Rider movie is set for a 2028 release.

Feige, who has hinted before that he really wanted to get Gosling into the MCU, said that one of the casting questions he gets asked most is if Gosling is going to play Ghost Rider. Well, he’s not going to be asked that again.

Taking to the stage, Gosling said: “Wow, is this really happening? As you know, this is a character I’ve wanted to play for a very long time.”

Tidbit:

Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds ‘crashed’ the Marvel SDCC Hall H presentation as Deadpool, sporting the grey suit from the comics. The bit seems to suggest that Deadpool will not be appearing in Avengers: Doomsday…
but I have to say, I can’t help feeling we’re going to see that grey suit onscreen soon.

Levy also took to the stage as the news was announced and revealed that it was during the filming of the new Star Wars movie that the plan was hatched for the duo to bring Johnny Blaze to the big screen once more.

“As Ryan started talking about his vision for this character, we started riffing,” Levy said, “and I finally said, ‘Bro, let’s ride.’ So guys, we’ll see you in 2028.”

The character of Blaze/Ghost Rider has been played by Nicholas Cage in two movies in the past, though both are pretty dire. On top of this, the MCU has kinda already had a Ghost Rider in the form of Robbie Reyes played by Gabriel Luna in Agents of SHIELD. Although the series has since been disconnected from the official MCU canon,

This is big news for Marvel as both Gosling and Ghost Rider are something fans have wanted to see in the MCU for a long time.

Is Levy the man to direct the movie? We’ll find out in 2028.

Star Wars: Starfighter is set for cinematic release on May 28th, 2027.
