Shazam! Fury of the Gods adds Rachel Zegler to the cast… have DC found their Zatanna?

February 28th, 2021 by Marc Comments

It looks like the DC cinematic universe is set to get a little bigger… but could it be a big DC character?

News has broke that Rachel Zegler, who plays Maria in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming West Side Story (and can be seen below on her youtube channel) has joined the cast of Shazam: Fury of the Gods.

But the interesting bit is that her character details are being kept secret at the minute, which has, as you’d imagine, us wondering who she could be playing.

Given the young actress’ beauty and overall appearance, it has us wondering… could she be DC’s Zatanna, left?

It would certainly raise other quetions, especially since we not too long ago reported that DC/HBO Max was on a lookout for its John Constantine to appear in the Justice League Dark series (here)… could the Shazam! sequel, given the character’s magic roots and the upcoming Black Adam movie, be the connection to the HBO Max show? That would be all sorts of great.

The sequel will see Zachary Levi return as the titualr hero with the powers of six gods: the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury (SHAZAM, get it?).

As well as all the returning characters and actors – Stars Asher Angel and Jack Dylan Grazer are also returning – director David F Sandberg is also returning (and recently addressed the rumours about Henry Cavill’s Superman appearing (here)) to direct from a screenplay by Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan.

Shazam! Fury of the God will be released on June 2nd, 2023.
