You may recall we reported a few days ago that Shazam! might be set to start filming as early as February (here)?
Well, it looks like this is indeed the case. In fact, it has been confirmed that the movie is DC/Warners next project to film and will go in front of cameras either in January or February 2018.
The story of a young boy, Billy Batson, who becomes earth’s most powerful mortal when he says the magic word ‘Shazam!’ is definitely a movie that could nail the lighter tone many crave in the DC movies.
We also have confirmation that Annabelle: Creation director David F. Sandberg will helm the adventure which looks likely to be one of the 2020 releases Warners teased a couple of days ago (here).
Swedish Sandberg was spotted by New Line when he was filming horror movies in his apartment and they gave him Lights Out to direct. Shazam! is his third big screen movie.
Does his involvement mean this could be a more horror-slanted outing? We can’t really say… but we definitely are keen to see what happens.
There’s still no word if Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson will be involved in this movie (he’s signed up to play Shazam’s enemy, Black Adam) or if he’ll be filming a later instalment – likely a Black Adam movie – in the DC universe at some point.
We love the risks DC/Warners are taking, clearly inspired by success of Wonder Woman and, although not critically, Suicide Squad.
