So… is Kevin Feige replacing Kathleen Kennedy at Lucasfilm and taking over the running of Star Wars?

October 9th, 2019 by Marc Comments

Look, there’s no point in lying, we all secretly – or not so secretly – thought that the news of Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige getting his own Star Wars movie was a sign that a change may be coming to Lucasfilm and that Kathleen Kennedy may be being pushed out.

Now a new rumour has it that this is the plan and Kennedy has a timeline before the leaves Star Wars behind.

Now, this is far from a new idea as Kennedy has been rumoured in trouble with her catching a lot of abuse (here) after the release of The Last Jedi divided the Star Wars audience and then Solo: A Star Wars Story showed that the fans weren’t happy with the new direction of the franchise at Disney.

However, when she signed a new contract (here) the rumours seemed dispersed until the news of Feige’s moving over to the galaxy far, far away (here) sparked up the rumours again, after all, to someone like Disney, who better to make Star Wars a success again than the man who gave us the MCU?

Personally, I don’t believe Feige is the man for the job – with my money going on Jon Favreau or Dave Filoni as the people who should be guiding Star Wars – but this isn’t this article.

So, in the most recent episode of This is Podcasting!, Jason Ward of MakingStarWars (who, in fairness do have fingers on pulses when it comes to Star Wars)  is reporting that Kennedy is stepping down once Indiana Jones 5 is finished and out in  July 2021.

If this is true, then Kennedy will be stepping down by summer’s end 2021.

According to the report, Kennedy will still produce movies, but Feige will guide Star Wars into the future.

Now, once again, this is just a rumour, but in all honesty, when Feige was hired, I did feel the winds of change blowing… let’s just see how hard they blow.

What say you all?

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker wraps up the Skywalker sage on December 20th, 2019.
