So now that Tom Holland is officially the MCU’s Spider-man and Marvel and Sony are apparently great friends now and looking forward to Spider-man: Homecoming, what is next for the webslinger and, indeed, the two studios?

Well, it looks like the harmony is set to continue…

Speaking to THR  Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman Tom Rothman was asked if a Spider-man universe would happen or more partnerships with Marvel and he merrily replied: “Yes to both those questions!”

“It’s been fantastic, our relationship with Marvel,” he gushed on.

And, while this is great, we’re exactly sure what it entails. We know Sony were planning a Spider-man universe with Amazing Spider-man 3 (now dead), Venom, Sinister Six and others, so we’re guessing we may see some of these ideas resurrected now… could you imagine a Marvel Sinister Six movie!?

“Sony has the ultimate authority,” Rothman said, “but we have deferred the creative lead to Marvel, because they know what they’re doing.”

However, what we are currently curious about this the Spider-man animated movie which is rumoured to focus on Miles Morales rather than Peter Parker as Spidey.

Will it still be a Sony movie or will it now tie into the MCU? Rothman’s not saying: “We have dated Christmas 2018 for what I believe is truly going to be a breakthrough animated sensation. [Phil] Lord and [Chris] Miller, who did the Lego movies, are doing an animated Spider-Man. And it has a very breakthrough look to it, and a fantastic story, and it’s independent from our Marvel Spider-Man.”

Get ready for a lot more Spidey in your life… never a bad thing.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
