I seems that the new Harry Potter TV series being developed at HBO/Warners has put the final nail in the Fantastic Beasts movie franchise, marking a closing of the Harry Potter movie universe that kicked off in 2001.

While the Fantastic Beasts franchise has had a bumpy road since the start, the franchise’s two stars, Eddie Redmayne, who plays Newt Scamander, and Jude Law, who plays Albus Dumbledore, have said that they believe their time in JK Rowling’s incredible universe is done.

Harry Potter ‘decade long’ live-action series officially announced with JK Rowling exec producing

“I think they probably have [seen the last of Newt],” Redmayne says of the franchise’s future, “That was a very frank answer, but yeah. And that’s as far as I know. I mean, you’d have to speak to the people at Warner Bros and JK Rowling, but as far as I know, that’s it. I think he may come back in a glimpse in the Universal world in Florida that they’re opening up, in which you may catch a glimpse of what he was up to in Paris.”

Redmayne has previously been rumored to return as Newt in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic land, which will open as part of the resort’s Epic Universe in 2025.

Adding to the likely bad news, Law said: “I know it’s certainly on hold.

“My guess would be that, now that they’re doing Harry Potter as a TV show, they’ll probably put their energy into that. I certainly haven’t heard that there’s anything on the horizon.”

This means that Rowling’s planned five-movie arc will wrap prematurely with three movies completed.

The upcoming Harry Potter TV series that seems to have derailed the franchise, has a writing team in place, casting is underway and, according to Warner Bros TV Group’s chairman and CEO Channing Dungey, it’s an “unbelievable dream, honestly, and as somebody who is a huge fan of the books, the opportunity to get to explore them in a little bit more in-depth that you can in just a two-hour film… that’s the whole reason we’re on this journey”.

The Harry Potter movies, including Fantastic Beasts, has a very special place in my heart as my kids, my son in particular, was a big fan, it was to him what Star Wars was to me as a kid, but all thinks must evolve. I just don’t see how they’ll improve on the movies but that will all bee seen in the coming years.
