With Arrow’s Stephen Amell set to take on the role of hockey-masked ass-kicker Casey Jones in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, he’s shed a little light on where this version of Jones is coming from.
Speaking to IGN at this past weekend’s SDCC Amell said: “He is not the Casey Jones that a lot of comic fans have come to know and love. He is a guy with a job that lives in New York and loves hockey. When things go awry, when he goes through the normal methods of what someone would do when they’re [a] law-abiding citizen and he’s met with laughter and scorn, he decides to take things into his own hands.”
So it looks like we won’t be getting the super aggressive crime fighter from the classic series. It seems that he’ll start on a more traditional path of being a regular joe who is simply fed up with what he sees going on around him, and decides to do something about it.
I think this could be a refreshing take on Casey, more akin to Amell’s Arrow. I know the first film received a lot of scorn, especially leading up to it’s release, but I actually found it to be quite fun, with the spirit and personalities of the Turtles almost 100% nailed. It also helps that I only paid $2 for it as a Redbox rental. I for one will gladly pay another $2 to rent the sequel.
