Stephen Amell: Casey Jones is not the same as the classic character in TMNT 2

With Arrow’s Stephen Amell set to take on the role of hockey-masked ass-kicker Casey Jones in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, he’s shed a little light on where this version of Jones is coming from.

Speaking to IGN at this past weekend’s SDCC Amell said: “He is not the Casey Jones that a lot of comic fans have come to know and love. He is a guy with a job that lives in New York and loves hockey. When things go awry, when he goes through the normal methods of what someone would do when they’re [a] law-abiding citizen and he’s met with laughter and scorn, he decides to take things into his own hands.”

So it looks like we won’t be getting the super aggressive crime fighter from the classic series. It seems that he’ll start on a more traditional path of being a regular joe who is simply fed up with what he sees going on around him, and decides to do something about it.

I think this could be a refreshing take on Casey, more akin to Amell’s Arrow. I know the first film received a lot of scorn, especially leading up to it’s release, but I actually found it to be quite fun, with the spirit and personalities of the Turtles almost 100% nailed. It also helps that I only paid $2 for it as a Redbox rental. I for one will gladly pay another $2 to rent the sequel.

Christopher is self-billed as the World's Coolest Nerd (meaning he wears glasses and is clumsy, but he never earned good marks in school). He loves all things Star Wars and superhero related such as comics, books, cartoons and movies. He's a husband and father who somehow manages to keep up with his pastimes since his day job mainly consists of sitting around a store with not much to do. He's very outspoken and wants to share his opinions with the world, or at least his fellow nerds. You can follow him on Twitter @AUDone44.

“with the spirit and personalities of the Turtles almost 100% nailed.” – Not even close.

Sorry, but as a life-long TMNT fan I liked the new movie and have to agree with Chris. (Marc)

As a life-ling TMNT fan I hated the new movie and I don’t think reducing the characters to being one-note caricatures that have no motivation to fight Shredder and learn ninjutsu from a book can really be described as “100% nailed”.

The characters were all there though. They were who they were. Sure, the book part was really silly but that’s a different conversation…
