We reckon Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg has put to bed any further speculation that The Defenders may pop up in Avengers: Infinity War.
Speaking about the upcoming season 2 of Jessica Jones (trailer here) Rosenberg was asked during an interview with EW if we might see The Defenders – i.e. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist (and yeah, probably Punisher too) in the battle against Thanos.
And, well, the answer was a pretty definite ‘no’:
Q: The Avengers: Infinity War trailer just debuted, and it looks like New York comes under attack. Any updates on whether the street-level heroes will have anything to do with the films?
A: None whatsoever. Our partners are Marvel, and if we’re doing something that’s counter to [their continuity], they would pull us back or orient us on the right path, so clearly we’re [okay]. But we’re very much in our own world.
Well, we never REALLY thought it would happen, but we had hope. We guess this confirms that the Netflix universe is not really anything to do with the MCU – we wonder, after the invasion in Infinity War, will we even hear it referred to in the Netflix shows?
Because, let’s be honest, it’s not as if The Defenders would be any use again Thanos. Oh, wait…
