The Spawn movie will not be aiming for your gigglybag

January 11th, 2019 by Marc Comments

While we are all sitting waiting for news on Todd MacFarlane’s Spawn movie over at Blumhouse and starring Jamie Foxx, we finally have an idea of the tone it’ll be aiming for.

And we admit we’re a bit late reporting on this… so, apologises if you read this already.

So, in a world where Marvel are giving us (mostly) bright and lightly toned movies, and DC –  which set out dark but was shouted at by a loud bunch of naysayers – are heading more in that direction with Aquaman and the upcoming Shazam!, it looks like Spawn is really going to go against the grain and hold true to the dark comic which inspired it.

MacFarlane had this to say: “There’s no joy… There’s gonna be no fun lines in it, and it’s just gonna be this dark, ugly two hours worth of movie, which is essentially what a lot of supernatural/horror movies are anyway.

“There’s not a lot of funny in them. And that seems to be a weird hurdle for a lot of people in this city to get over because they sort of go into a superhero/Avengers default all the time.”

So a comic book horror movie, then? Well, that certainly works for me.

What say you all?

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
